George “Fish” Alphonse

Call him Fish, Grandpa or Compere if you like. George “Fish” Alphonse is one of those pillars of grass roots theatre and culture in St. Lucia, having staged one-man productions like Lucian Country Boy, Mad Man Story, Pai Banan and Tim Tim. Fish has also represented St. Lucia at Carifesta – both as performer and director. He and his friend Kennedy “Boots” Samuel have collaborated on several productions, including a one-time radio series called Talkie Talk and a short skit for the opening of a Caricom Summit here in 1998.

A graduate of the Jamaica School of Drama, George “Fish” Alphonse has been in the arts for 28 years as actor, storyteller, comedian, director, narrator and in the last few years as a Cultural Officer. He is now part of the Special Events Department of the CDF with responsibility for Traditional Arts; these include La Rose, La Marguerite, Folk Dances, Story Telling and more.
